Grandma and Mara together again!

After flight cancellations, delays, and an unexpected overnight stay in Frankfurt, Germany, my mom made it to Gothenburg! She’s staying with us for 3 weeks and literally bunking with Mara the whole time.

Mara and grandma picked up like no time had passed since they saw each other last. My mom went with me pick Mara up from school every day, provided transportation in the grocery store, was Mara’s favorite playmate at the park, and her Moana book and movie guide.

After just a few nights of being in Sweden we headed for our a long weekend trip to Copenhagen! Our friends, Cam and Hala, were in Copenhagen for Cam’s work meeting so it was the perfect opportunity for a visit. We took a direct regional train from Gothenburg to Copenhagen, which sounded great on paper except that our train ended abruptly and we had to take a bus to a main station and get on another train, then that second train also stopped and we had to switch again! So a direct train turned into a 3 trains and a bus.

We stayed in a great airbnb with the next kids room we’ve ever seen – complete with a climbing wall, kitchen, workbench, and fort! Mara and grandma stayed in the kids room giving the adults some nice time to hang out and even get out for dinner.

It was so fun to see Mara reconnect with Uncle Cam and Auntie Hala. She met them for the first time at her first birthday then only on video chat since then. She was shy at first but then came right out of her shell.

We had lots of great time together to explore Copenhagen, both in the rain and sunshine. Of course we only scratched the surface in a few days, but it was enough to know that Copenhagen is a very cool city that we definitely hope to visit again.
