Spring, is that you??

After our long weekend in Copenhagen we had 2 weeks to spend time with my mom in Gothenburg. The day after we got back, Wylie made a trip down to Toulouse to take care of some things for work and for our permanent move in August. We timed it this way so I wouldn’t be solo and my mom could help out with Mara. We kept Mara’s routine with school, which gave me time for work and my mom time to explore Gothenburg. After school it was the Grandma/Mara show and we ALL loved it!

The sun started making more of an appearance which is a total game changer even if the temperature is low. One sunny day when the temperature was only around 4 Celsius, we did class outside! I was in disbelief at first, luckily I had warm clothes I could keep on for the class, but the sun really did make it doable. Most people shed their layers by the end of the class… I was not one of those people, but I made it!

Once Wylie returned we did some of our favorite family things in Gothenburg like visiting the World Culture Museum and Slottskogen park. We even ran into some of Mara’s friends from school at the park and took a mini train ride with them.

The end of April seems to mark the beginning of Spring in Sweden… spoiler alert… it’s not… but for a few days in late April and early May the weather was awesome. On the evening ofApril 30th we went to Slottskogen for Walpurgis night, this is an event where Swedes greet spring with songs and bonfires! The sun is already staying up well past 9pm so we didn’t make it until the bonfires, but the songs did not disappoint. This men’s a capella group and seniors choir that came next covered everything from ABBA hits to Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne to my forever favorite, I want it that way by the Backstreet Boys.

We are spending lots of time outside when the weather is nice, which means Mara is getting so much more of her favorite things – parks, ice cream, playing with friends!

We said our teary goodbyes to grandma for the second time this year. Luckily we don’t have too long before we see her again in July when we’re back in California!
